Gathering Data is One Thing. Putting it All to Work is Another.

A lot of companies dutifully conduct their safety inspections and audits, week after week, year after year. What do they get for all that effort? As we see from the whiteboard example, piles of data about the inspections themselves.

Does all that work translate into ongoing safety improvements that statistically reduce injuries? Typically, not so much, because trying to decipher all that raw data just makes the poor safety manager’s eyes glaze over.

That’s not the only problem. Inconsistent reporting, stemming from a lack of accountability, negates the possibility of a comprehensive safety picture.

Plus trying to communicate company-wide audit results to management with a raw data dump is sure to get you a dirty look.

Found a Mobile App to Manage the Data? Easy, Right? Not so Fast.

The app’s marketing materials may have thrown around the word ‘analytics’. But once in the thick of it, you realize they’re talking about ‘analyzing’ the number and type of inspections, not any actionable results from those inspections.

Many of the available applications simply capture the collected info in spreadsheets. Safety staff still have no way to collate – or use – the data in any meaningful way. Good luck spotting potentially dangerous trends among all those rows and columns.

So You Know What’s Been Done. Now, What Do You Do About It?

Even better, what if you could tell at a glance what the most pressing issues were? In that perfect world, all that collected data would be aggregated in a clear visual format – with literally no effort on your part. Items requiring attention immediately catch your eye.

Let’s take it a step further: You have a variety of visual summary graphics to choose from, depending on what you need to know. And by the way, everything is configured for your industry, your company, and how you prefer to work.

That would require safety management software that starts out with the end in mind. And it’s just one reason why so many safety professionals are choosing Safety Indicators as their all-in-one virtual toolbox.

Inspection Data is Easily Collected Anywhere, On a Mobile Phone

With the Safety Indicators mobile app, just click on the Applications module, the Audits button, and the appropriate Inspection Template. For each categorized item, click Acceptable or Unacceptable, then Save. Sounds simple? It is. Click “i” to add any amount of detail, or snap a quick photo, for any areas of concern.

Since the system is cloud-based, the collected and aggregated information is immediately available on mobile or desktop. You choose who gets access to what. Immediately see which audits are complete, and which still have pending issues.

Once you’re on board, the Safety Indicators team will get you set up, transitioning from your current Audit system. You can add a new Audit type at any time, using or tweaking the standard templates. Through Settings, you can also add or modify individual inspection items on the fly.

Identify Problems, Set Priorities, and Assign Corrective Actions

On the desktop app, click Insites to start digging into some real analytics. Then just glance at your choice of color-coded data graphics to see how many audits are completed, how many have pending issues, and what areas really need attention. The Heat Map grid can be especially useful, with inspection items along the left side, and the various projects or work sites along the bottom.

Recurring, growing, and cross-project problems are plain to see, as are safety improvements. Where you stand with your KPIs is clear and continually updated. And with a click, you can drill down to get details, photos and status of every issue found.

Safety Indicators also includes standard tools for communicating with key personnel about corrective actions, both single-instance and company-wide. Easily keep track to make sure they’ve been completed. Plus, you’ll decide who receives various notifications and alerts, as well as scheduled emailed reports and summaries.
